I had an illuminating conversation with Eric Roberts of The Unlock Method last week, and we did a little deep dive into my post-Saturn return chart. As we were wrapping up our call, I asked about 2027 and what this year means for our collective. I’ve seen blurbs about Pluto entering Aquarius—about innovation, rebellion, systems collapsing, and the rise of decentralized power. But Human Design adds another layer that resonates deeply with something I’ve been feeling: the era of safety nets and tribal belonging is shifting. I feel it on a personal level and a collective level.
In Human Design in 2027, we transition from the ‘Cross of Planning’ to the ‘Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix’. This transition in “eras” happens every 400 years. With the last 400 year cycle, we saw an era that prioritized stability, cooperation, long-term strategy, predictability. We’re moving from a time when our systems and structures were built to support the group into a new era that values individual sovereignty and individual resilience. It’s less about being taken care of, and more about learning to source power and protection (physical, emotional, spiritual) from within.
At this point, I told him about this podcast I’d been listening to—stories of people who came to America in the early 1900s. Immigrants who arrived with practically nothing and built entire lives and communities from the ground up. There was this energy of full participation. People were in it physically, emotionally, spiritually. They built things. Grew food. Took insane physical risks. Sat with grief on a constant basis. They were full active participants of life.
It really has been hitting me hard, this notion of how much our lives have changed in the past 100 years. In many ways for the good, but not all. We have drifted so far from personal involvement and physicality. So many of us are disembodied, distracted, waiting for life to get started. We outsource our instincts to systems, experts, and these silly screens. I often wonder if we would even know how to survive if the structures fell away. Physically but also emotionally and spiritually. How would you care for your body? How would you soothe your distracted mind without a phone? How would you source a feeling of safety within you? Many warn of vulnerabilities with our power grid, from climate change or cyberattacks or AI gone rogue. The developed world is deeply unprepared to meet reality without our usual buffers. We don’t build fires. Many barely cook. We panic when the WiFi is out for an hour.
From what I’ve gathered and felt in the last 24 hours, that’s the message of the Sleeping Phoenix. Maybe not to the extreme that I’m speaking to but we will all feel it on a certain level—our need to get involved and source sovereignty and truth from within. I hope there is a large wake up call to get back into our lives. I hope we stop expecting the world to carry us. I’m personally very excited for rich transformation and structures falling apart. It closely aligns with my incarnation cross of upheaval and conscious provocation. While I don’t expect everyone to want to be pioneers again, I do think it’s powerful to remember what it feels like to be directly involved and engaged in our life in a physical way. I hope this next 400 year cycle strips up what made us passive and dependent.
Xoxo,
Brooke
P.S. Seriously…work with Eric!
